Deadlines and Fees

International students need to apply approximately 4-6 months prior to the term they are intending to start. While we have no strict deadlines, all international applications go through the process below:

  1. Apply to the program.
  2. Include a fee if you are applying as an international student (i.e. $75 fee).
  3. Have transcripts sent from the institutions you attended directly to our institution (to Graduate Studies).
  4. After we have these we can recommend you to Graduate Studies for admission into the Graduate Program (because this step requires all of the above steps be complete this may take 1-2 months).
  5. We issue a letter of acceptance which you need to apply for a student visa (this may take weeks or months and is not controlled by us). Please note that the student visa serves as the criminal records check (since it is done as part of the process to obtain your student visa).
  6. We request you register in the courses in the program and pay the fees for the first term of the program. Health insurance also has to be arranged for the time you are in Canada. If you do not have coverage Concordia pays for coverage and this is added to the fees due.

The best advice here it apply early to allow for all the above steps.

Working in Canada

International students attending an institution and having a student study permit can work for the institution they are attending (as graduate students). We do not have positions for all students and students must apply and then be selected for the positions which are available. No work permit is required for this.

If a practicum/coop is a part of the program the student may work full time. and a work permit is required. Normally students apply for work permits well ahead of the 6 month waiting period so that they can work at that time if they wish to. After graduation international students can also apply for a work permit and this may be granted by the Government of Canada. Click here to go to the Government of Canada Program website explaining this and also explaining working on campus.
